Theory of Mind development in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

This study investigated the development of Theory of Mind abilities (e.g. “I think that Sally thinks that the marble is in the box”) in young children with ASD. Theory of Mind abilities have been found to be related to language learning and the understanding of jokes, sarcasm and figurative language understanding. Furthermore, Theory of Mind abilities are important for social relationships and establishing friendships with peers. This study is now completed and we are currently analysing the data. We will publish a summary of the outcome of this study here as soon as possible.

This study is in collaboration with Dr Dagmara Dimitriou (Institute of Education) and Dr Tim Smith (Bikrbeck College, University of London).
